I just got a ELM 327 Bluetooth OBDII scanner that works with my phone.
I plugged it in to my 2.2 '98 Sunfire last night and ran some tests. I failed a couple but can't seem to find any info on the codes provided.
Has anyone run into these and know what I can do to fix them?
I believe the 'lean to rich' sensor is one of the O2 sensors, but I'm clueless on how to fix the others.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
TID:$07 CID:$0d
- Minimum sensor Voltage for test cycle(calculated)
Max: 1,024
Test result value: 62,550
FAIL
----
TID:$0c CID:$20
- Misfire counts for last/current driving cycles(calculated)
Max: 63
Test result value: 64,524
FAIL
TID:$02 CID:$10
- Lean to Rich sensor threshold voltage(constant)
Min: 176
Test result value: 75

thats because those aren't error codes, they're freeze frame data. theres a big difference. you use those in conjunction with the Pxxxx codes to know whats actually happening.

The Pxxxx codes being when you actually get a check engine light?
I'm not familiar with Pxxxx.

correct. its a P (powertrain) or B(body) followed by 4 numbers which actually make up an error code.

then an obdII reader is not going to help you at all.

Perfect, thanks Rich.
It's my first reader, I've got to start somewhere. Luckily it didn't give me a P code so I've yet to come across that yet.
Actually,
The TID is the test identification process and the CID is the component Identification detection circuit.
All of these are interlinked probley through a lean condition or rich condition ( misfire ) which will cause all of this, if you have the ability to go into the misfire counter and use Mode 6 data you can see what the problem is, also this could be a vacuum leak.
FYI
TID$07 cid0d IS A egr decel test, check for EGR blockages or leaks
TID$OC CID 20 is a idle catalyst efficentcy test, possible cat problem or exhaust leak
TID02 CID 10 is a EVAP weak vacuum test and indicates a leaking vacuum system.
If you need further help with this please let me know...
Thanks for all the info Jason.
Did you just know this off the top of your head or did you look it up somewhere? I'm unable to find any info pertaining comparing TID's and CID's to test names and component names.
I have had EGR issues before and cleaned it out with some brake-clean. Perhaps its time for new one, or another clean and see if it tests better..
I'm not getting anywhere near the gas mileage my other 3speed 2.2 sunfire gets (this one's a 4speed) so if only I can sort these issues out I may save myself some coin.
Look up Mode 6 data... learn about it... there is plenty of information out there on it. Thats what your retrieving... Jason is on the right track.

Yep,
I have access to all OEM data however it mite be hard to find on the net. I have it because I teach drive ability classes for an OEM supplier. Mode 6 is correct like Alex said..
man i need to learn this tid and cid stuff we have a 3500 dollar solus snap on scan tech machine and i have no idea these tid and cid things and i need to find out how to use them badly
just being able to scan for obd codes doesnt help much and help figure out the cause of problems on alot of the vehicles we get in at the shop
what do i do?
how in the heck did you learn these cid and tid things and what they are and how to read them
thats crazy...
i cant evne imagine how much easier and quicker we could figur eout some of these problems on these vehicles if i knew what this info was and how to read it and use it
damn...
