BCM replacement and costs
Saturday, August 13, 2011 8:51 PM
Hello

My keyless entry has failed completely. In addition, I cannot unlock the driver side door via the electrical locking device and I am cannot pop open the trunk via the keyless entry. On the other hand, I can relock all the doors using the electrical locks on the door. I believe my BCM has failed??

Can I replace my old BCM with a new BCM and have the car operate safely until I get it into a GM dealership to have it programmed?

thanks....

Hello

Battery in the key fob has been replaced. All the other key fobs do not work as well....That was the first thing we did..

You may have a defective Keyless Entry module, or a defective remote, or you must just need to reprogram the remote.

Either way, it likely has nothing to do with the BCM.

Hello

All the remotes that I have do not work. How do I know if it is the keyless entry module that is the problem and not the BCM??

because the bcm has literally no connection to the locks in our cars, unless your car is 2001+

I would still look into the keyless module, assuming that the only issues you have with your car are the locks. Since if the BCM were bad it would likely cause other issues.

The keyless module is in the trunk by the driver's strut tower, behind the carpet.

When I tried to unlock the car via the power lock I cannot unlock the driver side door but I can unlock all the others. Since this happened at the same time as the fob failure I am thinking the the control module is more to blame..

Yeah I think it is the BCM.

You could get another BCM, but will likely have to get it reprogramed. Also mileage is kept in the BCM.

There is no keyless module on a 2002... it's integrated into the BCM on all 00-05 J-cars.

If you replace the BCM with a new one.. your car will not start, until you do a Passlock re-learn.

John, knowing my BCM is located in the left driver side kick panel of my 2002 LS Sport. What is the box located in the left rear quater panel if it is not the keyless entry module?
