injectors shut off when start.
Tuesday, August 14, 2012 7:47 PM
Im having problems getting my car to start. Its a 96 with 2200 engine 5 speed. It will only run if i keep adding fuel to throttle body. I pulled the fuel rail out. The injectors spray like they should when cranking but as soon as it fires up they shut off and not a drop sprays. Anyone have any ideas?

its a dirt track racecar. so no dash or lights. Maybe the security system? Can i just cut the wire. Im going to get a dash this weekend if i have to so i can check for codes.

No dash lights from my experience on my 98 means there is a fault with the passlock system (security system) check all you gauge cluster wires make sure they are good and tight since the pass lock is located in the cluster. Put some dielectric grease on the plug but there is a good chance if you gutted the car you may have damaged a wire going to it.

It does not have a guage cluster in it. Do i have to use one for the passlock to operate correctly? Thanks

yes you need the cluster installed along with all the wiring for the ignition switch.. i know the thought for a race car is to gut it, but there are lots of electronic things that these cars need to run

Yes you need the cluster. It is kicking into Theft Lock.

ok i installed a guage cluster and ignition tumbler. The theft light stays solid. Still wont turn over with the key. But if i jump the starter it flasher for a few minutes then solid. but still nothing.

You have to do the re learn procedure. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the run position. And wait. Usually 10 minutes or so, and it might take multiple tries. Anyways, wait 10 minutes, then try to start the car. Also dont open the doors or do anything electrical as that can hinder the process

I did that still nothing. I will try it few times back to back and see. Thanks

From the interior faq

Seriously, this is the way to get around it, the theftlock must be reprogrammed, and this is how:
1. Start the car and let it die. The theftlock light will be on, DO NOT TURN THE KEY OFF, OR OPEN ANY DOORS, OR TURN ON ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. Just fold your hands under your arms and wait 10-15 minutes...
2. After the car stalls, the theftlock light will blink. wait until it stops blinking.
3. Wait 1 minute after it stops blinking.
4. Turn the key to off, wait 10 seconds, then start the car again.
You may have to do this 3 times for it to work correctly.

tired all that and same thing. Is there a wire i can cut or add a resistor or something. Its just a gutted car racecar. Im not tring to steal someones car. Still cant get it to crank with the key. Turn key on light comes on solid. jump the starter starts for second. Then light flashes for ten minutes. Followed all the directions and cant get anywhere. Thanks for anybodys help.

no wire to cut. The ECU, cluster and ignition switch have to link up together before the ecu will allow the car to run.

go to radio shack and get 1/4 watt 2.2k ohm resistor tied to the black wire and connected to the yellow wire leading away from the ign switch key sensor

you cut the yellow wire in half

but dont cut the black wire

just tie one end of the resistor to the black wire without cutting it

leave end of the cut yellow wire on the ign switch sensor side free and dead-ended to nothing

now crank it and make the security light blinking again if possible
[do the re-learn prodecure 10 minutes thing

and then start it up

it will learn this new resistance and the BCM will always think there is a key in the switch

this is what i do on all the mid 90s to mid 2000s GM cars that shut down injectors that we get at our shop

impalas, malibus, grand ams, cavvies/sunfires, saturns, and others with this type of theft key sensor system

it works every time, always, when they just wont work right even after replacing key, and key sensor etc,

it just fools the BCM into thinking that a key is in the ign switch all the time, thats all

2.2k ohms is within the range of the six different reistance values gm used for these

part of this system is inside the cluster BTW yes
no cluster means no car worky/no run

fail.

I know u have heard many ways of theft lock but this is my personal relearn technique.....i always just get in leave door open so I can at least get out.lol turn the engine over. Let key snap back to on position and and wait exactly 15 min or more just to be safe turn key to off position for about 10 seconds and try and restart.....it has worked 1st time every time for me...my main thing is watching the time exactly...
