Ive seached and looked around, but the Topics seem to be dead. I got a 97 cav, 4psd auto. the vss sends signal, my scanner reads it. But the odo and speedo are dead. Besides a typical GM wire issue, Could the Cluster be bad? has anyone encountered this scenario?

That happened to me. And I turned up a lot of heat on the stepper motors in the cluster go bad and stop driving the needles. I took the cluster apart, and re-soldered in new motors... working 100% now, but come to think I'm not sure if the 97's used the same cluster as the 02-03's.

Since both the speedometer and the odometer have stopped, I'd guess on a wiring issue. There is a single wire that comes from the ECU to the C100 connector at the firewall. I believe it's a green wire, that sends the VSS signal to the inside of the car. I'd almost guess there's a problem there somewhere. If only the speedo or the odo stopped without the other, then i'd guess one of the motors.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
ive checked the wires and the motors, no luck. going to try a new cluster. poss. the issue. as you can see by the delay, this lay is in no hurry haha
