overheating issue

I have a 2000set Cavalier z24, and the temperature gauge is going 1-2 marks above 195 on the temp gauge when sitting at a light or in slow traffic, but goes back down once up above 35195 mph. Also theres a coolant smell from the front of the car after you get out. It hasnt been close to the red zone, and my coolant overflow bottle is showing at the full mark still. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Check for leaks but two marks above 195 is not overheating. The cooling fan does not kick on until 223* or the a/c compressor is on. Usually it is between the 2nd and 3rd mark above 195 that the fan will kick on.

Ok, cool, didn't think it was too bad, but the coolant smell concerned me a little. Thanks for the info!
