I recently purchased a 99 Z24. The low beams only worked and no high beam or DRL or fog lights. Then the low beam lights went out....Upon further investigation the wiring harness was trashed. I have re-wired everything and now have low beam back working and the fog lights working! But I still do not have any DRL or high beams. I investigated the DRL relay but it seems fine. Another clue is the hi-beam indicator on the dash is constantly lit. I wonder if there is a problem either with the turn-signal light switch mechanism or some other dash issue? How can I verify the light switch mechanism is working properly? Any help greatly appreciated!
All fuses are good. Another clue is there is no voltage to the left front high beam which is related to the DRL stuff. Like the DRL relay is not getting energized.
Thank You!
Could the BCM also be involved? I mean bad?
you still have wiring issues. check the harness, where it runs along the front bumper support, make sure nothing is still cut or pinched. I just found my problem, and it was a full split wire, and many that were damaged.
Thank you Arthur, but I have verified connectivity of ALL wires that run through the harness. I completely removed the harness and re-did it and checked continuity to all points. So harness checks good. All relays check good. The DRL/High beam circuit is not getting ground. Only components not checked yet are the headlight switch and the BCM. I get a new switch tonight and will be removing the steering column to test the switch and replace if needed.
Ok, I was just sharing what i thought it may be. I would lean away from the bcm, unless you can find one cheap. Its usually some kind of switch issue or wire issue. Also it could be a corroded ground point.
No issues, I appreciate the reply. The car has other electrical gremlins that all seem to trace back to the BCM. The grounds check out fine too. That was something I also thought of. Frankly I was really disappointed that re-wiring the harness did not resolve the issue. This seems to be a real bad issue these particular vehicles have. I have also read several posts referring to the BCM in this year to be flaky and cause all kinds of electrical gremlins. I will see later if the switch does the trick. If not, I found a repair outfit that will check the BCM for $85 and repair if needed for $211. Thank you for your input!
