i have a 96 cavalier 2.2. the other day it just died. now that i got it home i put new plugs and wires. it will start if i hold th pedal to the floor but it barely runs. when i pulled the plugs they are covered in black soot. i have spark and compression on all cylinders. i dont know where to go next. any help would be appreciated. thanks
My first thought was maybe your fuel pump
had a code p0108 for map sensor. replaced that no change and now that code comes and goes. i can gear fuel pupm running thanks for the responses though

i sounds like a rich mixture or a weak ignition check your air filter or your coil pack could be going bad you probably notice it hesitates on top of poor starting.
When did you last change the fuel filter?
fuel filter was changed 6 months ago. i tried fuel pressure regulator the other day. still no change. goin to do coil packs today
Coolant temp sensor can do some crazy stuff as well, might check into it
Have the oxygen sensor checked out ,when they fail ,so does your car!
