Need experienced cavy vets to help figure this out...

My cavalier is down, she runs, but she doesn't run strong like she used to...
These are the noises she's making, they're louder than the video would have you believe,
the best example is right as I crank the motor up, that's the extreme of the noises.
The noise isn't bad at idle, and on the road she's pretty quiet when she isn't under power,
but as soon as you get her up to 2.5-3 grand and have any kind of pressure on the accel,
she starts clanging, loud enough that I can hear it from the cabin at high way speeds...
Then if you let off the accel, she quiets up, but as soon as you touch it again it starts.

Does this sound like a timing issue? I thought it was a piston smacking valves (which I have
to assume are already bent if so) but a local mechanic that I know has worked on ecotec
2.2's initially said he thought it was the timing. We changed out the oil with fully synthetic
minus a bottle of lucas oil treatment, and no change in the noise. Now his answer when I
asked him if I should get the cloyes timing kit and change it was "We can do it and it might
stop or it might not change a thing"... Unbelievable... Anyone have an idea here? If it sounds
like I'm going to have to redo the rotating assembly, I might as well part it out, dont have 2700...
