Neighbor across the street said he could do it and I just need to get the parts. He said he's done brake jobs on a couple of his cars so it shouldn't be a problem.
I don't know @!#$ about cars really as far as repairing them. He said I should just get some brake pads and drums and I could just pull the car in his driveway across the street, we jack it up, pull the wheels and replace the @!#$. Right now, my rear brakes are making kind of a grinding noise. That can't be good. I had my disc brakes in the front done by a shop a couple years ago.
Any ideas on how much it will cost for new parts for the back brakes and how hard it is? I'm assuming it's not that hard. I just don't really have the tools or DAYS to figure it out on my own. Thoughts?
03 Cavalier LS Sport.

LOL. Didn't see the end of my post huh? I specified 03 LS Sport.

03 and up is a breeze to replace, but it confused the crap out of me the first time I pulled off a drum. A haynes manual wouldn't hurt to have on hand for reference. It cost me around 70$ for drums, pads and a can of brake cleaner
My '98 wasn't hard at all. Do one side and use the other side to make sure it's correct.
Sorry I didn't see that, my apologies.
It's neither hard nor expensive to the drums, though the bracket on the 03+ is a bit of a whore to get back on without instruction.
Your neighbour can definitely do it in his driveway for about $100 in parts.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
did you set the brakes in? go about 5 mph forward and slam on the brakes, same in reverse. he probably set the adjuster too tight so its rubbing on your drums. if thats the case, no real problems unless you can feel the car being slowed down by the brakes. then they're way to tight on the drums.
drums were the first thing i learned brakes wise, first car was an 85 celebrity wagon. must have pulled the hardware setup apart at least 20 times. haha
