Hey guys,
So i have an 05. Yesterday i had the icm replaced for the fourth time in one year. everytime this exact symptom sequence happens.
1) ICM replaced -- Car runs great!
2) 2-3 weeks later -- Intermitent hesitations & intermitent problems starting
3) 2 months later -- Car has now lost alot of power and is comparable to a geo metro.
4) 3 months later -- frequent problems starting, loss of power, frequent hesitations under acceleration, some bursting of power under acceleration
The only mods to my car is my sterio. running 2 amps for subs and highs w/cap & yellow top batt.
Please help me! my car runs like a piece!
not sure how the law works, but if it would apply...isnt that sufficient enough to call it a lemon?
if not, burn that bitch to the ground and collect ins. $
It's a Canadian vehicle, I brought it into America 2 yrs ago.
The Canadian lemon laws suck.
Is there some way to just get around this problem?
If i had a msd setup put on would it bypass this problem?
Seems like the ICM is good for a bit but then slowly bugs out and craps out. Maybe its the grounds for the icm?
Would the msd setup have seperate grounds and power hookups?
There has to be some sort of aftermarket ignition i can just have put on this. I rly need this fixed. I plan on installing my saab turbo setup in the next few months.
Um if you took out that many ICM's and you used quality ones each time you have other issues to figure out. Possible wiring issue.
Would it be possible to rewire all the connections and harnesses that are connected to the icm? How much do you think that would cost to have done?
My guess would be you have a damaged wire in the harness and when the ICM is replaced the wire moves just right to good connection and then over time it shift back out of the good spot and you get a poor signal or none at all to the ICM on that wire. To have someone rebuild your harness would be expensive, maybe would be cheaper to buy a new harness. Your problem could even be at the actual connection to the ICM. One loose terminal or expanded terminal and it will never be correct. Wiring issues can be a nightmare.
i know this is old but your stereo may be the cause of icm issues..... if your voltage drops below 10 volts or you have a bad cell in your battery causing low voltage it will blow the icm....i went through 2 before i figured out my second batt had a bad cell and caused a low voltage drop at start up and pow .....in limp mode blown icm
