Wiring Help - re-pinning
Tuesday, June 11, 2013 10:40 AM
Hi guys, I have a 1999 Cav Z24 and a 2000 Cavalier Z24, both 5 speeds. My son wrecked the '99 (which we had just completely rebuilt from the ground up) and unfortunately tweaked the unibody so I can't fix it. So, I picked up a 2000 body, which has no engine, tranny, or wiring harness. I'm trying to install all those goodies from the '99 into the '00, obviously they are different. Of particular concern is matching up the main connector that's between the under-hood fusebox and the clutch cylinder.

I'd just buy a 00 wiring harness but none of the national wreckers can seem to find me one, most are for automatics or the Eco, neither of which will work (as far as I know).

I have the Mitchell wiring diagrams for both, and the FSM for the 99, but I am trying to track down the wiring locations for that main connector. If I could get the diagrams for that connector for the 99 and 00, many many many of my issues would be solved. I just need to know which sensor/circuit/power/ground goes to which terminal location (A1, B2, etc) for both years. Then I can line them up and get 'r going.

I'm also trying to figure out the ABS harness since the 99 connectors are on the harness without the main connector and the 00 connector is completely gone from that car, but that's another issue.

Can anybody help me out?

I'm not sure what exactly your trying to do. If the 00 is missing part or all of the harness I would just swap all of the 99 harness engine and body into the 00 shell.

Most of the 99 wiring is the same as 00 wiring. Unless you have a 98....in which case a lot is different.

Does your 99 have EGR?...it shouldn't.

Engine-side the 98 and the 99 harness have a lot in common actually, Mike...

I agree with mike on the 2000 - simply take EVERYTHING out of the 99 and put it into the 2000... I believe the 99 has a metal gas tank so this includes the tank and pump/sender, etc.

The main issue is the 2000+ has a Body Control Module whereas the 1999 doesn't - which means everything interacts with the PCM completely differently.

To be honest your easiest bet is to hit up the forums here to see if anybody has or can get you a 2000+ LD9 5spd harness.... somebody has to have one. Then your job is plug and play.

MD - I'm trying to use a 99 engine harness and ECM on an 00 body. I thought they should be the same too, but they are different, not substantially different but just enough to be a PITA. For example, there are maybe 4 or 5 wires that are one color (say pink or purple) on the engine side of the harness, but a different color (tan, green, etc) on the body side of the harness. I'm talking about at the large connector that bolts together under the clutch cylinder.

Another difference is the ABS, which in the 99 goes through the fixed body harness but in the 00 was apparently part of the other harness and has a different connector.

I was hoping to re-pin or re-route the 4 or 5 wires that were different, then I would just be re-wiring the ABS and I'd be good, compared to pulling the whole dash apart on both vehicles, plus fuel tank etc.

I'm half tempted to just plug it in and see what works and what doesn't but I am afraid of frying something in the system. If I knew for sure the differences were just signal lines I wouldn't be too concerned, but one of the large power feeds on the 99 harness goes to a tiny purple wire on the 00, and I know that's not right!

I definitely agree a replacement 2000 engine harness would be the way to go. If I could just find one, if anyone has any leads I would appreciate it!

I'll try to post some pictures and more detail tonight.

Thanks!!
Rusty

What about the EGR, Kncock sensor, injector impedance/harness, and the entire locations of the evap system.

Oh, well In the tuning forum....you should be able to search for the 99 and 00 pin outs. I know I have posted them in there a long time ago.

I have wiring and ecu from my 02 I wont be needing, doing eco swap. My 02 is a 2.4, 5 speed like your needing and is all together, not missing any plugs but still in my car. PM me a offer for what you would be willing to pay for it
