Hello There.
So I have done some researching on this forum and others and I come up with something that puzzles me.
I recently I have purchased a Oil Pan Gasket from FelPro. Now this kit contains a cork gasket for around the oil pan, and a small tube of RTV. When I have looked up how GM usually does it they don't use a gasket and just use RTV. (Im talking about the flat surface area of the Oil Pan not the valley part that requires a gasket.)
My question is what should I be doing. Should I apply the cork gasket and just dab the corners with RTV to hold it in place before torquing the bolts down, or should I rim the entire edge with RTV and hope that holds.
When I got my timing chain done at the stealership a year ago, they half assed some white RTV job near the timing chain cover on the oil pan side, and i'm wondering if they could have potentially messed up the "seal".
Im just curious before I go on doing this and having to do it again.
Thanks for any help.
