Please help, I have a 97 cavalier 2.2 5speed.

The ignition switch got stuck in the on position.
The care cranks and tries to run if you move the key a little further, but stalls every time and the anti-theft light comes on.

Do I need a new igition lock cylinder, or what do I need to replace?

Advance and Autozone mentioned reprogramming if I find a new switch, but my keys are old fashioned, with no
chips, just the key by itself. What do I do?

Ok, in my case it needed a new ignition lock cylinder, the part where the key goes, not the circuit board /module.
A friend of mine put it on for me, and there is a useful video on youtube about replacing the lock cylinder and reprogramming the
car.
