Hello all,
The car just did this the other day, started idling rough when I almost got to work, then died. It cranks and starts fine, but it idles violent. The entire car shakes. It will go into gear (auto) but when I give it ANY gas it dies immediately. Plugs are under 2 years old and I have not checked them yet. Its not throwing a code either. Any ideas where to start?
Thanks for any input!
I would suggest checking the fuel pressure.Could be your fuel pump is going bad.At least the symptoms you stated would point to this being a possible to resolve it.
I will say that I can hear the fuel pump buzz like normal. Sounds strong. Im wondering if it could be the ignition module, or even spark plugs... fuel filter? I will just change it all and see what happens.
Id check throttle position sensor, that's what happened with mine

Threw a p0300 misfire code. Put new plugs in it and it runs the same, tested the ignition control module and that tested fine. Going to test the coil packs now. Not sure what else to do without throwing a bunch of money at sensors.
I will say that when its in park, i can rev the motor and it gets smoother, but still misfires and feels weak.
I'd say vacuum leak. Do a compression check.
When you hit the gas it dies maybe because of leanout.
Headgasket? Or bent valve more likely.
Bent valve? That seems kind of extreme
Check the vacuum hose on the map sensor.

That hose checks out fine, now when I crank it over it just seems like it doesnt even want to turn over. Motor has a locked type of feeling
Fuel injector stuck open?
Well, after some trial and error, (luckily my local advance auto takes back all the parts that werent the culprit) it turns out it was the coil cover. Bought a new one, put the new boots on it and the old coil packs back in, and its good to go. Cleared the cel and it runs great.
