OK so when I drive my car normally the engine temp stays right in the middle but, when I drive it hard it tends to go up. I have noticed that as long as I'm moving it stays where it should. When I stop at a light or something the temp will start to go up then back down when I get going again. So this is what I'm thinking is that the fan is not kicking in. Is there an easy way to see if the electric fan is still good? Or is there a relay I should check as well? I have not sat in front of my car to see if the fan kicks in but I have never see it going. Any help would be great. Thanks
P.S. I just changed the thermostat a couple thousand k ago, so thats good and it was flushed like two or three times so the coolant is clean and at the right level.
If you already did your thermostat im thinking its likely to be the water pump, check if its leaking any coolant.

Yes officer I knew the speed limit was 50
Is there any way to test if it's still good? Like can I meter it, what should I look for?
What year is your car? You should look into changing the thermostat if its getting up there in age.. I have a 97 2.4 cavy and I was having some of the same problems.. The new thermostat fixed the problem...
Mine is a '95 but like I said in the first post I just replaced the thermostat like two months ago. If it was the thermostat it would heat up right away (like two blocks of driving), atleast thats what it was doing before I changed it. I want to find out if my fan still works or not.
pop the hood, turn the AC on, and check if the fan kicks on.
if it still overheats, then check your thermostat.
QUESTION:
when its overheating, does one side of the radiator stays cold and the other side gets really hot?
in that case, then it might be the thermostat.

that means the thermstat is open, one side of the radiator will be hot (fuild coming in, and one will be cool (fuild goin out to cool the engine) thats what a radiator does, cools the fuild.

I know some cars the fan kicks in when you have the AC on and the car is running on the battery. I wasn't sure if ours do that. So if I turn the key so the gauge cluster lights up and the radio comes on and push the AC button on the Fan should kick in? Can somebody try this and just make sure it works so I know if this will work or not. Thanks
make sure the thermostat is the right temperature
the one that was in my car stock was 185 degrees, not 195
I changed it for a 195 and my car ran hot ever since then...
I'm changing back to 185 with the anticipation of the car cooling off a bit
