I have a 1999 z24 5 speed
the problem is when I put it in gear (doesn't matter what gear 1-5 or reverse) it makes a baninging and clunk noise and the tires don't move, seems like the gear inside it is slipping. If I turn the tires sometimes it will chatch and grab catch and grab for a bit and if im luck lock so i can move it into the garge.
I took the drive axles out on both sides and they are fine. checked the upper lower mount, and tranny mount they are all solid and tight.
I think its in my tranny, I'm also sure it the spider gear, is that what it could be?
if so is it worth changing or getting a new tranny, and is their a more solid gear that i could buy that will take the abuse?
It is the differential. The damn gears in the differential broke.
You can get a differential from a 90-92 Geo Storm, or Isuzu Impulse. The gears were machined in those trannies instead of made of pressed metal. Search in the transmission forum to learn more. I think some people have some for sale yet.

Ok thanx
I'll look into that!
Dan Cotter has a differential in the classified for sale.
That is one of those stronger ones from the old style isuzu tranny.

Sounds like you might have broken a puck on your clutch.
stock clutches don't have "pucks" that will break off.
