I have a 2000 z24 with 78,000 miles on it? A few weeks ago I noticed that is was idling at around 1500 rpms. Does anyone know what might be causing this? There is no check engine light on and no other symptoms. other than the high idle the car runs great. Someone please help me
thanks
Shawn
pull out the idle air control (IAC) motor and clean the carbon build up off and push or pull the part where the carbon was until the idle is back to normal. this will require you to adjust and reinstall to check idle speed. My 2.4 Grand am did that and this fixed it
I have an 02 with the same situation. what do you have to adjust on the IAC?
the IAC adjusts on its own. if cleaning the IAC doesnt help, it most likely is the Throttle Position Sensor.
Peace Out!!!
what o' dude right there^ said had the same problem in my fire changed the TPS , everything good
also, check for vaccum leaks. In this cold weather, they can cause a high idle

On my 2.4 grand am when the tps failed it started bogging down at stop lites and on the highway. interesting
a vaccum leak would cause a low idle, it would lean out the air/fuel.

how do u fix vacuum leaks?
My 01 2.2L does the same thing. Ive got new plugs wires fuel filter changed as well, I remember before my old plugs were coated white color, Not sure if the plugs are the same. I got no check engine light on, Could have a PCV valve sticking too, I notice at times I hammer on the gas pedal its like a lagg sputter / not a firing mis,

yeah....no.........a vaccum leak will lean out fuel and air but, will cause a high idle.......check the hose that goes from the map sensor to the manifold......i have noticed on the quad four's that the vaccum line will dry up and crack causing it to pull in more air than needed thus giving you a high idle...hope this helps any
If it is the hose to the MAP sensor. If like my car it idle high would cut out, gave a code and puffed out some black smoke. Yeah the hose dried up and cracked on me.

There is also a hose from the valve cover to the intake to collect and burn any oil vapors. If this pops off, it will cause high idle since it is connected after the throttle body.
^^incorrect. there is no vacuum until after the throttle body. any vacuum leaks would be from hosing on the throttle body or from the intake manifold itself.
