Hey guys,
I have a problem with my '95 2.2L OHV auto Sunfire. WHenever I push the accelerator, or get off it, I here a 'clunk' or 'knock' sound from the front right (passenger) strut/spring area.
It doesn't, however, make any noises when there is a weight transfer (ie when going around corners and the spring/strut is compressing or decompressing). Is something hitting when the engine torques? is there a common cause?
Thanks!
It could very well be just the bushings on for ur struts
mine (97 z24) makes the same noise when i stop or start and it comes from the back tho and mine is definatly the bushings
You might wanna try checking that
the bushings are like $10 no biggie
Possably your trans mount is lose or broken.

strut bushings? $10? Which ones are u talking about? the strut mount? (>$10), or do u mean the control arm bushings? (~$20)?

check the boots of your CV joint to make sure they are ok? its a long shot, but better yet, take a look yourself, look for anything unusual.

I am having the same problem, the clunking from the rear, I bought new struts and springs (haven't put them on yet) and had it looked over by a friend, who is a mechanic, and he said to look at the cv joint as well.
The rear of your car does not have CV joints. They are only in the front as their basic purpose is to allow you to turn your wheels while moving forward. I would still check the CV's in the front anyway because it can be very confusing where a sound is actually coming from on a car.

Well.. i fixed it. Bought new end link bushings for the sway bar and VOILA noise is gone. SHould have done that 2years ago. It was just a shot in the dark.

SO Cavyboy, the knocking sound you were experiencing was coming from your rear end? You solved it by replacing the endlink bushings in the rear swaybar?
Because the noise I am hearing is certaining coming from the front passenger side strut area. It's not the infamous rear strut mount rattling, I've already dealt with that
I will check the mounts next I guess - Trouble is I go to school away from home, and can only really get under my car when I go home, so easter is likely the next time I'll be able to investiage with teh wheel off...
i have this same problem...coming from the front passenger side wheel area whenever i push the gas, or slow down...i made a post about it about 1-2 weeks ago and people seem to think it was a broke or loose motor mount. so i checked both the upper, lower, and tranny ones last weekend and they were all ok. so i still have the problem.
