After months and months of skipping I finally got a CEL. Heres the story.
I first developed a skip about a year ago. Never could find anything wrong. I replaced the O2 sensors (Bosch for both), Spark Plugs (AC DELCO PLATINUMS), Spark plug Boots (Xact (GP SORENSON)), Ignition Control Module(GP SORENSON), Ignition Coils (GP SORENSON), Fuel filter (Purolator), Pressure Regulator, Fuel Pump (AC DELCO), Crank and Cam Sensors (GP Soreneson) Intake Air Temp Sensor and TPS and IAC (GP Sorenson)
Then after all of that, My oil pump failed and I blew my engine. So I rebuilt the engine and dropped it back in. Car still skips under a load ie. (If I am in 5th and I hammer the gas it will go then skip and pick up again and skip etc.) so tonight I got pissed with it and I was going up a hill and I wasnt going to let off, I kept the gas pegged and then I get a CEL (ended up being Cylinder #1 misfire) Oil pressure was fine, Voltage was fine (according to my guages)
So now I am at a loss. I cannot figure this out and I am ready to drive off of a cliff. There is a big drag racing event coming up and I want to be a part of it but I cant with a car that wont cooperate. The car hesitates when I give it a little bit of gas (like it bogs down for a second then kicks in) and if I let my car idle and I listen to the exhaust, there is a Putting sound that you can here about every 5 secs. its like mmmmmmm PUTT mmmmmmm PUTT mmmmmmmmm. Thats the best I can decribe it to you all. I am at my whits end so please HELP ME!!!! Everything internally in engine is new and all sensors etc. are less than 4 mos old. The only thing I didnt replace is the Coil pack housing because there are no black marks on the outside to indicate spark jumping or grounding out.
Can you keep up?
have you even bothered to look at the injectors ???
Run some seafoam through your system including using the Master vacum from the brake booster, this will clean you complete emissons system out. dump the rest of the bottle in the tank. 2 things before you do that.
1. Check you vacum hose to the MAP sensor if it looks cracked replace it, pull it of blow through it, then take a real small piece of metal (precision screwdriver works great) and poke it through the hole on the in take (there could be a carbon build up there) put a new vacum hose on (if needed).
2. Check the middle wire (I think its orange) on the map sensor plug and make sure it is in the plug securely if you doubt that it is zip strip it to the connector for now.
Once you have done 1, 2, and the seafoam step 3. Clear the code (should be cleared if you disconnected batt. to do the map sensor stuff), then go for a little ride not a hard 1 just a small easy take off, if it seems to be better, get it on the highway and open it open then let it back done again, do this a few times to make sure the computer has reset.
I hope this info helps .. should cost you no more than $10 total for the Seafoam and vacum hose.
It looks like you get you parts at Advance auto if so seafoam is still on sale for 3.97 instead of 4.97.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
I had a 2001 GRand am with a 2.4 and i had a slight skip at idle. The ignition coil pack cover is well known for getting a small open were sometimes it will skip under lite loads and at idle. This failure will not set a cel until the problem is very bad (which could take up to a year of persistant driving). You can most likely pick this part at a parts store. they would most likely call it a IGNITION COIL PACK COVER in their system.
Yes I looked at injectors, all are clean and functioning fine. I have already seafoamed car and replaced MAP vaccume hose. I have the HO mani swap done. All parts are new. I used to work at Advance Auto Parts up until a week ago. I just started my Managers job at Oreilly Auto Parts this past Monday. I have worked on cars for a long time and it bugs me I cant fig this out. I am thinking coil pack housing and if that doesnt fix it then I am going with ESC module in the ECM or the ECM itself. Its kinda like the timing is getting thrown off. I dont know more input would be great though
Can you keep up?
I just had the same problem with my 98 z. The stalling and puttering of the exhaust. I blew out everything on the inside of the vacuum hose plugged everything up and disconnected my battery for a minimum of 15 minutes, that should reset your computer. The problem is now fixed!

so you replaced all of those parts in chasing a misfire? Wouldnt it have been cheaper in taking it to a mechanic, or actually testing to see what is wrong?

might want to check your ignition wires then coil pack.
I agree with Shef, should've just brought it to a mechanic instead of playing a very expensive guessing game.
