ok in reverse it grides a little, thats normal you does it do it when i shift from 1st into 2nd and 3rd into 2nd.
say this before some idiot here says it YES THE CLUTCH IS IN ALL THE WAY

Since you got the "clutch is in all the way" cliche out of the way, how about the "have you checked your clutch fluid level?" cliche. Look under the transfer case for fluid indicating a slow leak if it is.
If that's not the problem, try bleeding the lines and changing the fluid, there might be air in the lines. Try checking and changing the transfer cas fluid if it hasn't been done in a while.
If that is still not the problem, I would start thinking worn shifting forks or clutch springs.
thanks, the clutch fluid is good but the tranny has 210 000 on it no fluid has been changed

Bad news for ya man....I have the same problem your synchros are done. Basicly you need a new tranny in your car to get rid of the grinding. This is a very common and anoying problem with our transmissions.

Do the other stuff first, its cheaper, eliminate the possibilities than move on to the more expensive solutions like forks or syncros.
I had the exact same problem you do, all I did was top off the clutch fluid and the problem would go away until the fluid level went down too low again. These cars (mine is also a 1996, but a Cavi) have a "donut" shaped slave cylinder/compression bearing combo that fits around the trany mainshaft. That is to say that the clutch bearing is placed on the end of a "donut" shaped hydraulic cylinder that moves in and out to activate your clutch. The cylinder has to be sealed on the outside and the inside, if the tolerance is out a bit either way it will leak, and since this car is built by GM to be one of the cheapest cars on the market......it also had a problem leaking (mine leaked right out of the factory and lasted that way until about a month ago - the original owner was conned into just topping up the fluid once a year or so by the dealer).
The grinding gears simply means your trany isn't being activated properly, it is not necessary indicative of one problem or another.
My friend had that problem on his 99 2.2 Cavalier.... Grinding in every gear etc...
His Clutch was complety done... they changed clutch with pressure plate etc. and now everything is fine.
did some diagnostics on it the weather got mild, so i think there was some moisture in there, thats then only thing i could think of because i went out on the highway got it warmed up hasn't done it since i take no grind as a good sign 211 000 now and shes still moving i love the isuzu trannys there bullet proof at least mine is

I have a problem with mine, when I drive normally it shift perfectly... if I accelerate hard going to 6k rpm and quick shift... it will not get in, it doesnt grind it go in I release the clutch and nothing.... like if it was a fake tranny. its like spongy I need to retry 2 or 3 times and then it work...
My clutch doesnt seem to slip because in 2nd I can accelerate full trottle until 6k without no problem
I'll check and change my Tranny Oil... manual with 72 000km on it... never had oil changed.

my clutch doesn't slip and i rev to 6000rpm almost all the time it seems like it was the one day when it sgot mild really quick

I know this is quite old but I thought I would throw in another possibility. Could also be your shift cables stretched out or breaking. I know I had this problem before and ended up actually breaking one of my cables. Now a year later im starting to get the same problem and i think it has to do with to many fast/hard shifts.
