Well, I put a new switch in my 2000 Z 3 weeks ago. Its messed up once again. In order to have the headlights come on I have to pull the lever towards me and hold it, or stuff a piece of cardboard there to keep them on. This is the 5th switch. I cleaned all the connectors with Electrical Cleaner before installing this time. There was some burnt looking marks in the blue connector coming from the car to the switch.
Does anyone know why this keeps happening. I really need some help here. Thanks

How could I find out whats causing the problem? What would a GM shop do?

oh my god dude ......... your post is exactly what i was going to write and funny you are in toronto too .......... you driving my car around???? lol
mine is a 2k2 and mine died 40 days after the last one ......... well i'm pretty sure it's almost dead
what i have figured out is i don't think our switches are dead.
before i left twork onight i pulled the drl relay from the fuse box just to look at it after the lights went through their clicking routine. when i put it back in and tried again everything worked (mind you my drls were still dead)
i think it is the headlight wiring harness and i have been trying to get a pn# for the harness off of the JCO website. some guys refer to it as the headlight harness while others say it is the hibeam harness (which may make sense if there are two because the drls and the hibeams are the same)
let me know if you have figured anything out

I have the EXACT same problem. Far as I can tell, though, is that my HIDS burnt out the switch when the ballast came off it's mount and grounded on the frame.

I have the same problem as well. I refuse to change the switch until there is a proper solution. Thankfully I only drive in the city for the most part and don't need my low or high beams.
It sure would be nice to find a solution.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem yet?

I have a question. Any of you with the switch problem have stock bulbs?
---
I'm running Eurolite 9007 bulbs. I do notice some burnt marks on the blue connector that the switch plugs into.

I'm guessing it's your bulbs, man. Mine burnt out when I was using HIDS myself.
I think I've seen this kind of thread before.

i'm running stock bulbs in my z.
as for the cost, figure about $150 for the switch not to hard to replace yourself.
i'm figuring its not the switch because when i pulled out the relay under the hood near the front drivers light, the lights work again with the switch. i just don't have the daytime running lights and my driver light still flickers when i release my hand brake
From what I've heard, they run up to around $100 in some cases. Some guys have bought them for around $60, but I have no idea where they found it for that little.

Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet. I have a new switch at home, but REFUSE to install it until I can find the real source of the problem

I opened my bad switch up and discovered it had just failed mechanically. I had no electrical burns. So I replaced it and it's been fine for a few weeks now.
