Hi Guys!
I've been a guest to this forum for quite a while now and I finally decided to join in. I need a little help from you guys. Do any of you have the wiring diagram for the rear defogger system on a 97 2 door cavalier? When I push on the button, the light comes on just like its working, but there is no voltage getting to the defogger. Anyone had this problem before? Any help is apreciated. Thanx!

did you check the 2 connections on the rear window that plug into the defroster? if not, check those. otherwise, i think the hanes manuals from autozone would have the diagram
im sure someone on here has it though

I have the Haynes manual here but it doesn't have any diagram with the defogger in it. And I already checked the connections on the window. Is there any relay used for the defogger?

I'm listenin' in on this, I have the same problem. All plugs are connected, light comes on, but no power to the defroster.
there has to be a relay somewhere for it, but i have no clue where it is...check in the fuse box and under the hood in that fuse box as well..
HONDAS ARE LIKE TAMPONS…EVERY PU**Y NEEDS ONE!
It should be in the front fuse panel, if not even your owner's amnuel will tell you where it is.
Did you check the window connectors with a voltmeter to see fi there is power back there?

Check the HVAC Fuse (10A) and the RR Defrog Fuse (30A). If the fuses are fine let me know and I'll scan the diagram out of my 97 factory service manual. There are a couple switches and about 3 different grounds for the system.
Defog, not defrog
I did not check the HVAC fuse because everything works fine exept the defogger. I did check the 30A defog fuse and it's good. I also checked the connection out back with a voltmeter and got nothing. About the relay, I didn't see anything in the owner's manual about it, I'll check again tomorrow to be sure. Zach, if you could scan the diagram for me it would really help me. Thanx guys!

...And by the way I'm Mathieu Landry the one who made the original post, I just changed my Author name...sorry, I'm new and needed to get used to this forum. It's a little different than the ClubGP forum i'm also on

I checked the 30A fuse also, it was ok. No voltage to the rear window, but the defrost light comes on and will go off on its own, just doesn't work.
?
I will have to check the HVAC fuse.
Hi All
I have had a similar problem with my '93 2.2 cav and did some searching around.
On my car the circuitry for the delay (on time) of the rear defogger is behind the defogger switch in the central panel.
The ON/OFF switch when set to ON energises a solid state circuit to close relay contacts energising the rear window element and the indicator light in parallel.
If the indicator light is ON then there must be a break/open circuit between Pin D of the switch unit and the rear window element.
I will see if I can draw a sketch and post it here later today
It may help a little
Alont
OK, maybe that ^^^^ will help.
Hi All
check your email's
see if it worked

Thanks for the mail!!!
Could you send me the sketch you made of the wiring diagram. I'm having the same problems with my 2000 GT
Thanks!!

Did this fix everyone's problem? If so please send me the Cure! I have the same problem and it sucks now that it's snowing in Wisconsin.
Thanks

So the system I have, 93 2.2 , works like this:-
In the panel where the Defogger Switch is located (centre console) there is also:-
1. A solid state relay containing a timer circuit.
2. Defogger ON light
and
3. Panel light--supplied from panel lights
All of these are mounted on a printed circuit board attached to the defogger switch.
1. The Gauges fuse (10 amp) supplies the Solid State relay and the defogger ON/OFF switch.
2. This supply also energises a solid state relay which, when selected by the ON/OFF switch, closes it's contacts and feeds power from the PWR ACC circuit breaker (35amp) from pin B to Pin D on the printed circuit board and on to one side of the rear window heating element (The other side is earthed).
3. After approx 10 minutes from first switch ON the relay timer times out and the defogger is switched OFF.
4. Any more presses of the defogger switch should bring the defogger ON but it will switch OFF after approx 5 minutes.
Easy fix, if the wiring is good, is just to change the complete switch/timer assy from a junkyard
Hope this helps

I noticed that on my '00 when the defogger lines peeled away in a small 3 inch section, the light was on but the defroster didnt work.
If there is any disconnection anywhere on the rear window, your defroster wont work.
There are defroster repair kits at most auto stores for about $12 USD.
