Whatever you do don't buy a remanufactured compressor from Advanced Auto...or from anywhere I suppose. I've had mine replaced 3 times and need to get it replaced again ,but it's out of warranty now so I'm pretty much screwed.

As far as installing one goes I have no idea, I had a "professional" install it. And I think you have to cause don't you need to put freeon(sp?) in it?

Dont foget to change the reciever drier, the big silver can. it traps alot of the crud thats withing the system. Autozone has the comp for about 200 and the drier for about 75 bucks. Most places wont give u warranty if u dont buy the drier. Also dont forget to flush the lines and change a little inline filter thats in the ac lines near the radiator on the right hand side of the car. If that filter is clogged ur system wont cool right. Its not hard to do all that, but got to be mechanically inclined. Can be back breaking work to get the compressor at the bottom. Buy a good manual. Haynes kinda of sucked.

You can remove the compresser with air tools in like 20 mins Minutes if you have a lift.

I pulled mine when i had to replace a piston. Then its just to other bolts holding the lines on (i belive).

Like stated above...you need to replace your Drier and orphis tube (SP?)...its the lil filter thing. Then recharge with a shot of dye and your good to go.

take off the belt, it a pain in the ass. then you gotta bleed the freon, unhook all the hoses and then take off the compressor. go to autozone and get a manual.

First off, check on how much it is going to cost you get the system purged and then re-charged again with freon. Also, by getting a $50 compressor from the junkyard, you have no real guarantees that it isn't in the same condition as the one you are replacing.

what I would do is take it off install and then bring to an ac place to charge it/check leaks.
I didnt for the simple fact my parents own an ac shop so i did it but its not to terribly fun. and if i recall correct its 2.25 pds of coolant. what the dealership or any normal shop will do is bleed the system put it in a holding tank then recharge with your old coolant (which sucks) or you can pay out the ass for new stuff.Or just take it off completely and just drive fast he he.. so hopefully you dont live in texas like me! no AC and youll die here lol got to love getting stuck in our famous 3-4 hour traffic jams during rush hour, there always seems to be a wreck daily with a 18 wheeler on I-35.

but back to subeject it can be done rather simply, couple bolts holding it on youll need to remove the belt autozone can rent out the bar with the socket for like 20 bucks, then also replace drier and the line for it (dont really have too imo, i didnt do it on 8 other cars ive had and have never had any issues maybe i was lucky) but if you got the $ do it.. you can rip it out install and charge in 2-3 hours tops also wal mart sells the coolant there its like err 9 bucks a can here may be cheaper where you are, they also sell a kit includes and gague when you charge it i think the kit was like 20 or so came with can and a gague to charge/check, also can get the dye added stuff at wal mart to or any auto store id assume.

so you figure the cost:
compressor 50-200 (used)

drier/line 70-240 (new)

serpatine belt removal tool 20 (rental/buy)

coolant 20-40 (new w/kit) check sticker to see how much you need i want to say its 2.25
pds might have been my other car that was

time 2-4 hours

o yeah when you take off the compressor COVER the tubes if you dont replace them dont get crap in them it can damage the newer compressor!

i may have left something out but o well i just woke up

beer is like a chick.. well not really its just beer, it be cool thou huh?

well i got the new compressor on and everything seems to be alright!! no noises... just

hope that it holds out for a while!!
however, my brakes seem to be my next problem... my front diver-side brake rotor has a nice groove in it now. ive been hearing a noise for a week or so, but jus thought it was rust around the edge of the rotor. however i took my wheel off tonight to see something in side the caliper has been scratchin the rotor. so i guess tomorrow im off to midas to see what the deal is.
anyone have any suggestions/ideas?
thanks again!!

Your brakes. The pads have worn down to the wear indicator and has scratched a groove into the rotor. That noise was the scraping of the indicator wear tab onto the rotor.

If you brakes are wearing evenly then the other side should be doing this or at least be close to doing it.

Just replace it all with new rotors and pads.
