I have a 1990 Sunbird which for 152,000 miles has run and started flawlessly. Today on the other hand there is a strange problem. When I went out to start the car it just clicked. So I had a freind help me jump it. after an hour of trying to get a spark we finally juiced up my car. It ran fine for about 10 minutes. But when I popped it out of park and into drive the car just died. My brother had a 90 something Firebird that did the same thing, and thats why he sold it. Any of you guys know whats wrong with my bird and is it expensive to fix? thanks
if it just clicks and will start will a jump, and will not continue to run with out a jump box it is probably your Alternator, and possibly you may need a battery too.
No this in not a common Pontiac problem, it is a all car problem. you have 150,000 miles, the alternator is way past it's expected life.
If the stater just clicks intermittently it can also be caused by a worn starter.
Parts wear out.

Yeah like u probably need a new alternator.U should use a multimeter to check ur voltage at the battery, starter and alternator to assure u have at least 12.5 volts that will alloy the car to run but,13 volts is preferred or higher. My guess is the alternator is not charging at all enuff to alloy the car to run all the electrical stuff like the ecm, sensors etc and the car will shut down due to low voltage.Check the alternator first its seen its better days more than likely.
well I had my friend help me find out the problem. We used a test light and found that there was a constant draw of my battery. When I opened my door a weird buzzing noise came from the lower left front end. We never figured out what it was, but my friend did stop the draw that was on my battery tho. Anyone know what the heck that buzzing noise is?
bumble bee? i have no idea..
door buzzer maybe?

parasitic draw will not cause a car to not stall.

just get a new alternator anyway, if its not dead your lucky

it could be your coil pack. or your tcc senoild..
they went on my 90 cause her to stop running.. when it did run she ran then went i drive she would shut down, stall out.

GOT ECOTEC?
what does a Torque converter clutch have to do with the the car running? IF the TCC was bad you only would not have lock up. And a coil pack will not cause a no crank.
