I seem to have no luck with my a/c system. About a month after I bought my car my a/c system quit and wouldn't blow cold, so I took it back to the dealership and they said it was the compressor that went and replaced it for me (thank you warrenty). That was a couple years ago. I usually don't use the a/c except in traffic, but when I went to use it last week, it didn't blow cold. I got one of those recharge kits, and following the instructions, recharged my system. That worked fine for a couple of days, and now it's back to square one. When I was recharging the system I looked around for leaks and didn't notice anything, but that could have been due to the fact that my motor was running. I don't feel like taking it anywhere to get it looked at, since I don't have the money to pay someone, so if anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated.
The term 'stock' is COMPLETELY relative...
get one of the leak detector kits and find out where your refrigerant is going.. and pick up one of the recharge kits from wal-mart that have a gauge on it for $24.88 or so...but i would definately get a leak detector kit..
This happened to me. The actual compressor was leaking on mine.. make sure to check that when looking for leaks, not just the hoses/pipes.
Also, the A/C technician that I took my car to said that it is better for the A/C to be run at least once a week, if not more. Not running it for a long time can cause problems with the seals and the internal oils used. That's why the A/C turns on when the defroster is running, so people use their A/C during the winter...
lalalala
mine has a leak on the compressor seal i agree with Dennis a leak detector is a life saver otherwise you will never find the leak
Fast isn't always good, looks and sound is sometimes better

What is the deal with j-body compressors? When i bought my 02' cavalier, the compressor was bad and replaced under warranty. Now that I am a month over warranty, the AC is blowing hot again! Compressors are not cheap either.
the compressor is $220 or so

Oh ok I was checking saturn compressor prices. They are like $600.00. Thanks for easing my stress on the price.

That might be true but not entirely. The compressor turns on when your defroster is on because the A/C system de-humidifies the air in the cabin. It basically dries out the air in the cabin, which takes moisture off of the windshield quicker.
all gm compressors go bad, that is just fact of life.

I think mine has been leaking slightly for the last year but not enough to keep it from working. Whenever I crawl under the car there's a wet oily spot on the bottom of the compressor. I worry about it whenever I work on the car, but the A/C still works fine. Do our compressors have separate oil and refrigerant fluids or is it a single fluid?
