The other day I went out to my car and tried to use the remote to unlock the doors. It didn't work, neither did the lock, trunk or panic buttons. I have tried to re-sync the remote, changed the fuse, and the battery in the remote. Anybody have any ideas what it could be? How easy is it to fix? I am just trying to avoid taking it to the dealership. It's an 02 Cavalier Z24 5 speed. Thanks,
Did you try to resync it AFTER you changed the battery? If that doesn't work, see if you can borrow a remote from the dealership to test, then buy a new remote if that works. Otherwise you need to ohm out every wire that goes to the black box mounted on the left side of the trunk (under the carpet) to see if it's a wiring issue. If all the connections are good, it's time to spit out the cash for a new RF controller.
Hopefully it's just the remote. If you keep it in your pocket all day it can get sweaty and fry. Same goes for dropping it in the potty, etc.

Yeah I re-sync'd it after I changed the battery and nothin. And for the most part it stays in my coat pocket all day, which just hangs on the coat rack all day. I don't think it's the remote cuz I have two remotes that came with the car and neither one works. I will try checking the connections to the black box and see if that turns up anything. Thanks for the info.
the remotes are pretty sturdy, i washed one in my washing machine and it still works
