Hey everyone,
I was wondering if you guys had some input on which plugs to use. I was thinking about using the Autolite Double Platinum since the ingnition system is DIS. I was wondering if anyone had used these and what there results were? What other plugs have you used and what were the results. The car as stated below is stock as a rock but does not have the AC/Delco wires (they were replaced at about 50k with Bosch because of bad drivability). Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks

Hey Red,
What kind of Bosch? Platinum, Bosch 2, Bosch 4? Same for NGK or denso? What did you replace your double platinums with in your grand prix? Thanks for the help.

in the grand prix i replaced the stockers with the bosch +2's which worked great... i have the bosch +4's in the cavi now whch also works great. ive also heard great things about the denso and ngk plugs.
yea, i had to con the guy at the parts place to refund the autolights.... lol

I didn't have any luck with the Bosch Platinum +4's. Made my 97 2.2 Liter Cavi run like crap. I went back with a new set of AC Delco's and they run great. I'd personally stick with the Delco's.
Braxas,
Which Delco's? Platinum or Rapid Fire? The Delco sight lists the Double Platinums (which are $5.99 a plug) or the Rapid Fires (which are $4.99 a plug). That is why I am looking at the Autolite Double Platinums because they are only $3.99 a plug (plus a $1.20 mail in rebate). Thanks again guys for the help.

I have had the bosch +4's in my car for a long time now and no problems at all.

I'll have to
plug ... pardon me ... the Bosch 4's as well. Not a bad price, worked well in my 01 2.2L Cav.

i run the denso iridium mainly cause i run the msd dis2 system which puts out alot more abuse voltage wise to plugs. have lasted 50K on a set of plugs although reccomended to change at 30k.
i used to have denso on stock ignition and it gave REALLY small advantages in gas mileage and startups, but most dont need them.
the stock plugs are more than fine, as long as you keep em gapped right. most other plugs i have found to be gimmick plugs with extra prongs. electricity always takes the shortest path, so 2 and 4 prong plugs arent needed.

Q8. Why do some spark plugs have multiple ground electrodes?
A8. This is an attempt by the manufacturers to increase the service life of the spark plug. The ground electrodes can wear down rapidly in some engines. Tiny particles of metal are removed from the ground electrode each time the plug fires hence they gradually wear away. There is a misconception that a multi ground plug will produce mutiple sparks - this is not true, only the nearest electrode to the centre (i.e. currenty the longest) will spark, as that becomes worn, another electrode will become the longest and replace it as the sparking electrode.
Q9. Do my multi ground electrode plug outperform single ground plugs?
A9. In most cases, no. The additional electrodes disturb the flow of gases around the spark plug tip and if anything performance is reduced. In addition, for high performance applications the additional metal within the combustion chamber will retain more heat and may be more prone to detonation/pre ignition
heres something to check out.

Guys,
Thanks for all the help. Just to clarify I am not looking into using an sort of plugs using multiple ground electrodes. The stock Delco's are double platinum (tips on top and bottom electrodes), but they are $5.99 each. Autolite makes a double platinum plug (which is an OE appliction in this case) that retails for $3.99 and has a $1.20 mail in rebate, so at that price I wanted to give them a try. I am not looking for any gains in hp or acceleration, just want to do the regularly scheduled maintanence. Thanks again for all the help and if anyone has had any experience with any other plugs (good or bad) it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
