does a seized motor affect cams?
Wednesday, May 18, 2005 11:40 AM
i've been searching the wreakers for a exhaust cam for my 2.4L sercet cam swap. i found one in a 1990 Buick skylark LO quad 4 (i didnt even know quads cam in that car) but before i removed the cam, i tried to turn the crank, it wouldn move, so i took off the timing chain cover and tried to turn the motor at the cam gear, it turned just a bit but still seemed seized, the bolt actuallt started tightening more. i had no problem turn ing the motor when i got my intake cam from a 1995 sunfire. When i got the cam out, it looked ok to me, but it was discoloured (brownish) . could a machine shop clean them up a bit, or should i be ok? i'll try to post pics

Measure the cam using a micrometer. Are the lobes within spec, if so the cam is good, if not its junk.
