It is very easy. First jack up rear of car and remove the gas cap to remove pressure in the fuel system. Locate the fuel filter and remove the plastic clips at each end of the filter (a flathead screwdriver should do and don't worry about breaking the clips since new ones should be supplied with the filter). Keep a rag or container handy to catch any fuel in the filter. Place new fuel filter in the correct flow direction and reconnect hoses using the new clips. Now you should turn the key to just before the car starts to regain pressure and also check for leaks (do this a few times). That should be it.

Actually removing the gas cap wont release the pressure in the fuel system. go to your fuse box in the engine bay and remove the fuel pump fuse, then turn your engine over a couple of times and that will remove any left over gas in your system.

when you jack your car up you just unlug your fuel pump from underneath your car...the harness is right beside the fule filter...then turn the car over a few times and that releases the pressure... this is how haynes manuals say to do it

Removing the stock fuel filter on a '99 Cav is a major pain in the ass. You need the stupid plastic tool from AutoZone, etc. to get the clips off. If it is not the stock one, you should be alright.

Email me if you have any more questions.

screw that.. lol i took off a stock one and sure...it was a pain inthe ass but i didnt cut it at all..and thats not how they do it at the dealership either... all you have to do is get a small flat head screwdriver and jam it around in there for a little bit and the metal clip thats hidden in there will break right out...took me about 10 minutes

plus im scared to take a cutting tool to metal ( which will cause sparks) to my fuel lol
