Turn Signal Help Please
Sunday, May 22, 2005 4:33 PM
Alright I have no turn signals at all. They are not flashing and I am getting nothing on the guages either. I replaced all the bulbs and the fuses were good. Any ideas?

Sorry might sound dumb for asking but I tried just about everything. I was going to try a different gauge cluster but my turn signals work so I dont think it is that. I also changed the switch to see if that might have been the problem but no luck there either.

I have not had the chance to replace the flasher but am going to try that next. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and how they fixed it.

Try applying power to the flasher relay (if possible) manually, could be a wiring problem somewhere.

Do your parking lights work??

Yes, the parking lights do work. Everything works except the turn signals.

On '93 Cavaliers there are TWO flasher units, one for the normal indicators and one for the Hazard flashers.

I just wondered if this is still true for your car, make sure you have changed the correct flasher.

I am having this same problem. My signals don't work on my dash or on the actual lights, though everything else is working... I think I might have accidentally pulled something loose in the dash cuz it happened a little while after I installed my new head unit. Just trying to find time to get back in the dash..

Yes the 1995 sunfires and cavaliers do have two flasher units and I replaced both of them.

We did check all the wires to make sure there was not a short some where and no luck. We thought it was because of the side markers that are on the stock bumpers that i removed because of my rksport front but my bumpers have been on for a year and the problem just came about. Any other ideas?

Thanks everyone for responding.

Probably a bad multifunction switch (turn signal switch).

God bless America.

Hi Hotfire

So you have changed:-

1. Multifunction Turn/hazard switch

2. Flasher unit (Both Turn and Hazard)

3. Checked Fuses Turn b/u 20Amp and s/lp fuse 20 Amp

It can only be a wiring/earthing problem.

I did have a problem with my Daytime running lights / A/C not working.

These run off the 25Amp A/C fuse and although it tested good on a meter and looked good visually I had to polish the fuse contacts with fine wet and dry paper and then put the fuse back in before everything worked normally.

It just was not making a good contact before the cleaning, had sort of a film on the contacts.
I just wondered if you had a similar problem with the flasher units fuse, it would be worth a try before you have to delve deeper.

If you have to delve deeper I would remove the flasher unit and bench check it with two bulbs and a 12 volt supply to make sure it operates on the bench, then check all the flasher circuit earths before heading into the wiring.

Hope you fix it
