wipers parking vertically

Someone please help me with this...

My wipers started parking vertically after a bad ice storm this last winter. I talked to a couple people, read through the forums, did some Googling, and decided it was due time to replace my wiper motor.

I first tried a salvage yard, but the wipers still parked in the vertical position, so I concluded that this used motor was faulty as well. I went back and pulled another motor that was already attached to the linkage and tried that in my car; same results. So I got fed up with it and went and purchased a brand NEW wiper motor. It was shipped to me in the park position and so I reset the wiper linkage and crank to also be in the park position. When I put it into my car and tested it out, the wipers STILL parked vertically. I tried running the wiper motor without the linkage and allowing it to get to its park position and then attaching the linkage, but still the same results.

This is making me insane. What am I doing wrong here? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Charlie

The motor itelf is fine...

Its the wiper "transmission"- this little metal clip breaks off & the motors stop in the center of the window....

You need to replace the part that the arms are attached to, under the cowl.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm thinking it's not the wiper transmission simply because I have replaced it already. I have also inspected both the old and new transmissions and it doesn't appear that they have any broken "metal clips" - the clips are in fact there and functioning as they should.

I'm starting to think that the problem may be electrical somehow. Could this be true? Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this after I have swapped out the motor, linkage, and transmission?

Well...

Mine did that one day--- Set the delay on the wipers..If they stop @ the bottom of the window before swipes and return vertical when you turn them off, then its the trans.

Its a possibility that both the transmissions you had were both broken. Just because you replaced it with one from the junkyard doesn't rule out the possibility of a second defective trans. Its not impossible.

I doubt there is any other reason why they would stop in the middle of the window.. I suggest trying another transmission- hell, even a 4th one if it keeps doing it- The only way for you to know for sure is to replace it with a trans that you absolutely know works.

When i removed mine to inspect what was causing it- the little metal pin fell out on the ground. Thats the only reason I knew mine was broken. Had I not seen that, I would have no clue.
