Now the bitch I have is not this shoty weld. I just put that here to show that the weld is completely butt for quality. I didnt do it...a local "respectable" performance shop did it.
The question I have is this. The picture shows the back side of my header going into what i think is the cat.... is that typically welded like that? I thought there was always a flex pipe put there to cut out the vibration. Which is actually the first thing I noticed when I started the car again after pickin it up. My motor went boom so they put another one in for me and I asked them to install the header which they did for free. I think I got what I paid for.
I guess what I am looking for is a suggestion on what its supposed to be or what I should do to fix this.... it rattles like crazy. Should I add a flex pipe and a high flow cat? I cant yell at the shop because they did it for free......I cant bitch about getting what I paid for I guess?
is that a pacesetter header?
if it is... get some motor mounts to minimize engine roll and you should be just fine
Yep, its the pacesetter. Is motor mounts the only way? I have heard negative things about vibrations or something like that when motor mounts are installed. I will get them if thats what I need for sure, just want the best fit not neccessarily the cheapest.
yeah get the motor mounts, call Karo @ car customs, best price , not to mention he is a good guy to do business with. just ask anyone.
Well, you can have a flex joint welded in. That would probably cost you about $30 for the joint and installation.
Thanks guys!! Maybe I should do both? I appreciate the help. People I have talked to around here didnt have any suggestions
well i have a flex pipe between my pacesetter and my high flow and i have very little vibration, in other words, i'm happy.

What the heck is a "Datsun" ?
the OHV motors arent as bad as the 2.4 is , plus you have a 5spd which keeps the vibes down also
also the trans mounts will help also
and doing a 2 1/4" high flow cat , and adding a 2 1/4 pipe after the cat to your cat will will help the exhaust out also

Thanks.....now I have a plan of attack!! I appreciate all of the replies!!
That looks like they welded a 2 1/4" downpipe to the 1 7/8" stock cat and instead of using a reducer cone, they just filled it with a big fat weld. I hope it holds up for you, but I dont see it as a benefit performance wise to use the stock cat and have a rough weld in there to make the exhaust gases turbulent.

agreed^^ Its going to get redone next week locally with motor mounts, highflow cat and larger pipe back.
When I had my header welded, The guy the intermediate pipe right before it gets smaller, and then cut the opening of my cat to 2.25 and welded in a piece of stainless piping to connect them. It looks much nicer than that. I'd take it back to them and have it re-done correctly.
The shop did it for free when the replaced my motor.....I dont trust them anymore. I dont want my car anywhere near that shop at this point. The mistakes I have found are little but makes me lose trust in them. Plus I got in several fights with them so I cant really go back there
they used the booger MIG. they could have at least taken a grinder to it smoothe it out so it won't be rust out in 6 months.
CAR GODS MADE THE 1.6 SOHC TO MAKE US 2.2 OHV GUYS FEEL BETTER.
im not sure what else the shop did
the wled isnt the best looking , but alot of tech's out there dont have the best welding skill , cause its something they dont need to do everyday
that weld should hold , and shouldnt leak
i dont see it as being the worste , but a exhaust shop would do better , cause that what they do for a living
id be happy tell i got the money saved up to get the rest done
