Foglight problem... 99Z24

First.. this isn't a "I need to know the replacement bulb" question..

So my foglights don't work.. period. Started last summer, one went out... went to replace it but it was fine... still threw the new bulb in anyways... then over time it came back on.. then the other one went out... checked that one.. also fine... so for a couple months they bounced between one or the other going out, or both of them going out.. yet the bulbs are always fine when I check them...

But now.. they don't work period... they never turn on and it's pissing me off... both bulbs are still fine... when i turn on the switch on the dash.. that light turns on to let me know power's at least getting to the switch.. but the lights don't turn on...

And here's a kicker for a bad ground.. I also have ANOTHER switch that I made a couple years ago.. where I tapped into the ground wire of both lights, and ran it to another part of my dash.. I ran the wire to the switch, then the other prong of the switch I ran to a ground.. so whenever I wanted just my fog lights on and nothing else.. just flick the switch and they turned on.. now that switch doesn't work either.. so I don't think it's a grounding issue...

Oh.. and MAYBE once a month.. they'll work.. I'll just go to check them and they'll both turn on.. or one of them will turn on.. but the next time I get in the car.. 99.9% chance they both won't be working again..

And if this is related.. my rear defogger also isn't working.. push the button.. the light above the button turns on.. but nothing happens.

Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated.

first, i assume the fuse is fine? secondly, check the wiring, maybe freyed somewhere. Third, if you can't find a problem with the wiring, try wiring it direct to see if they work, if so, run wires to the factory switch

It could be the relay, but I would guess you have a frayed wire somewhere as well. Same thing happened to me.

Yea, fuse is fine...

Chris.. was the frayed wire just at a random spot or was it somewhere specific?

Thanks.

My first time was the relay. The second time I had to get a whole new light socket assembly. Then worked fine.
Hope that helps.

Actually, mine was right at the socket to where you plug the bulb in. I never would of even looked there, but by chance I did and saw that is was corroded. had to get a new one. 30 bucks a GM for the part.

I believe on 99's its on the back of the front bumper bar... facing the front of the condenser radiator...
