HEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!

Hi ppl, I'm still a "padawan" on Cavy related stuff, so I'm lost in the space on what happened yesterday... btw, I bought it a week ago...

I have a 96 Cavy 2.2 (still unsure if it's a Toyota engine) 5 sp. It was made in Mexico. Here we go...

In the morning the car started fine, as usual, drove for about 30 minutes to my workplace, parked the car and went to my office. At 5:00 p.m... it means 7 hours later, tried to start the car, and it didn't. coughing and coughing... Tried one more time and shaking a little finally started...

On my way home, at the rush hour, the ABS light and the Orange bulb with an engine icon...(I think it was the SES light) and if I'm not wrong also the red battery bulb blinked a little and the engine started to rev and unrev for a few seconds, like losing power...

I don't know why the cars love to give problems at night... gggrrrr...

Drove for 15 more minutes to a friend's home, parked the car. 20 minutes later leaving his home, tried to start the car and the same sympton... coughing and coughing and didn't want to start... my friend and another guy helped me pushing the car, trying to start it (while in second shift and in the on position)... and nothing...

Then we started to check the fuses box at the left of the dashboard and in the engine bay... and all the fuses were fine... unplugged a cable of the sparkplug and noticed -while trying to start the engine- that there was no spark.

Having no idea of what was happening or what to do, called the 911 for assistance, they sent me a crane-truck to bring it to the mechanic.

Today, the electrical expert checked the car and didn't find a reason of the malfunction, then the electronic expert came and told me that a module or sensor was failing for sure, so yesterday he will bring a diagram of the car to check it again...

Well... any ideas on what's wrong? Thank you so much for your feedback

LOL, oh, well, 911 is not like the 911 service of USA... hahahha, had to specify it... it's a Bellsouth service for miscy assistance... dunno why they called it in that way... -_-... btw, I'm from Peru... hehehe

I'll suggest the technician abt the coilpack... thanx!

When I used to have a cavalier I experienced the following things:

1) It would take a few cranks to turn over sometimes.
2) Twice it started acting up and running poorly, losing power and stalling. Both times it was bad spark plugs.

hope that helps. and hope a mechanic figures it out for you.

My girlfriend's truck has the exact same symtoms. It is the 1996 GMC Sonoma 2.2 liter which is the exact same engine as the cavaliers from 95-97 I believe.

The problem in her truck is the fuel pump. Basically the fuel pump is not initializing on startup sometime. It happens like once every couple months. If changing the plugs and wires doesn't help, then have your local mechanic test the fuel pump flow rate.

No spark, Huh. Had a similar problems with my 97 Cav. I had no spark at all at the sparkplug end. Changed coil packs, ignition module and few other stuff. Sometimes during the work it would start up then die, and then u could start it up and u turn it off and start back up. After all the stuff changed up and free labor to put the stuff in and another 200 at an electrical shop. It was a simple thing. My fuse for the ignition in the fuse box was not making contact in its holder. Thats why it could start up after it would die and die when it started up. Damn if i couldn't believe myself. Its been 8 months since it happened and never since then again. If u change the igniton module and packs and still have the same problem, check ur connections along the wiring and fuse and see what happens.

The electronic technician finally figured out that the problem was the ignition module... he attached a relay component to the module and vrrrrrroooooooommmm... everything fine again...

In the future, he suggested to put an electronic relay instead of purchasing a new module.

Thanx all for your feedback!!! this helped us a lot... I really appreciated it
