overheating?
Wednesday, June 08, 2005 5:32 PM
Just lately my car seems to be overheating a little bit. Usually its only when i sit for a decent amount of time with the car running. Im not sure if its just the heat outside or if somethings wrong. Does anyone know why the car would overheat other than low engine coolant because i have plenty of that.

thanks

What is "overheating"? If you are sitting in traffic and it goes up to 200 or so (somewhere before it goes to the red area) then its pretty normal.

If your CEL isn't on and blinking, then its not a miss, you just might be wearing out the cat, resonator, and/or the muffler.

so that would cause the car to make a popping noise that sounds like a miss constantly?

Yeah, mine pops all the time, I think I'm just slowly blowing the packing out of the muffler or cat...

U dont mention how many miles u have on ur car or how long its been to any maitenance on the car that is related to ur problem. If u never done any work: Radiator might be clogged, thermostat sticking or slow to open. Electric fan might be kicking in a little later than usual. A stuffed up cat or muffler.
Remedy: clean radiator- take out and acid wash it. change thermostat and even change the temperature sending unit.
Stuffed cat or muffler- if u check ur exhaust and the air output is quitely diminshed the something is clogged. Take it to a muffler shop and let them do it. They can also check to see whats wrong.

it didn't happen on my cav until the thermostat and electric fan took a crap and i overheated the car and blew all the antifreeze out which led to the head gasket leaking. and with it all replaced now it does it.
