PCM vs. BCM

So my A/C quit working last week (yes i read the sticky and I don't think this is related) and I take my car in to have it looked at. They tell me PCM is bad and this is why my A/C is not working.

This is only a couple months after they just replaced my "BCM" to correct another electrical problem.

So does my 2000 Z24 have 2 computers? One called a Power Control Module and one called a Body Control Module. And would the PCM really effect my A/C or is this guy blowing smoke up my @ss?

If it can be fixed by replacing my PCM, does anyone know where i can order one online? Thanks for you help!

Yes, there are 2 computers in a cavalier.

BCM controls the body electrical & interior.
PCM controls engine functions & engine compartment.

In some cars, not sure about cavys, the AC compressor runs power though the PCM.
You can not just replace a BCM or PCM with a new one without having it flashed (programmed to do what it supposed to)

It is possible but unlikely that the pcm is bad.

Take your car to another shop that does a/c work and tell us what they say.

Agreed. Definetly get a 2nd opinion from an AC shop.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm thinking it might be the PCM after doing some more research. This is probably why my factory fogs stopped working too.

Anybody know where I can order the part from (preferrably online)? And then should I just go to the stealership to have it programmed? I can't imagine them charging too much just for the programming.

If your fgo lights stopped working they are controlled by the BCM . The PCM is primarily engine and drive train .

The "stealership" is the only place that can program it. Not sure what it would cost though.
