hey guys, im gonna be doing the window motor on my brothers car soon.
I did some research and it says that the rivets are a 1/4" in size, but none of the rivet guns shoot 1/4' rivets only 1/8" rivets and other sizes.
Does the 1/8' rivet equate to a 1/4 in diameter and the 1/8 inch is the head of the rivet.
Can someone tell me if i should buy the gun or if u need a special gun that will shoot 1/4' rivets? thank u.
Side question, the lithium greace, can i put it on the motor, regulator and tracks? thanks again

i just bought some bolts at home depot, i placed 4 out of the 5 holes with bolts and it seems to be holding up fine. It took some time puting screwing the bolts, but this allows me to unscrew and screw the bolts anytime i want now!!

Always use lockwashers when bolting stuff together.

We sell rivet guns where I work, and yes you do need a different gun for 1/4 rivets. You can't get enough pressure on one of the small hand guns to pull a 1/4 rivet. The gun we sell to pull 1/4 goes for $120CDN (this is for a larger hand tool, the pnuematic one to pull 1/4 are close to $400CDN). Like Xtreme-Cavalier said above just buy some bolts and do that. I helped a buddy do his window motor on his 2000 Blazer and thats what we used, no problems. Also if you have to ever remove them bolts are way easier. As for your question about the sizing when it says 1/4 rivets that is the diameter of the body of the rivet, not the flange.
Thank you for the clear answer beemer, that was just what i was looking for. I'll get some nuts and bolts and washers. 97cava, thanks for the link but ill go for longer route.

I did this last year after my driver window stopped working. Got some stainless steel bolts and nuts, with stainless lock washers, I think.
Anyway, they've gotta be low profile so the door panel fits back on correctly. I placed the bolt through the back and towards the front so the nut is seen, not the bolt head. Probably doesn't matter which way you do it.
Anyway, tighten everything real good. you wouldn't want a loose window setup.

also when the window moves up and down , it runs accross where 1 or 2 of the rivits are so they have to be kept short
how long bolts should i get? i have to do it this weekend..lol..

I got my rivet gun at harbor freight. Cost no more than $20. Works perfect! 1/4" rivets too.
