upper mount, mounting bracket bolts (twin cam)

i'm looking for the part number for the 3 bolts that connects the motor mount bracket onto the block (timing chain side) on a 2.4l.

i also was looking for advice on how to access these with the motor still inside the vehicle as well as what socket size to use.

I thought that it was two bolts? They are either 13mm or 15mm.

Once you get the upper mount out then you have to raise that side of the engine....i believe they are 18-20mm bolts..you can get them out with out removing the engine.....just time consuming thats all because they are loctite in....hope this helps

Well GM just wants you to spend alot of money on parts that dont needed to be replaced. Motor & tranny mount bolts only need to be replaced only if their are any kind of damage done to them. Otherwise they should be ok. I just did a poly interchange tranny and motor mounts on my 01 cavalier, I reused the same bolts from stock hardware. Its been 1 month now, No problems yet.

Good Luck with youre job dude

Well one more quesiton since me and geekd seem to be doing the same thing.

To answer your questions:
- 18mm is the size of the bolts. Use a breaker bar if you have one
- The bolts need to be touched with lock tight before reinserted.

Now for my questions:
1. I've got one bolt out. Can I continu to raise the passenger side of the engine until
all 3 bolts are exposed without damage to any of the components?

you cannot expose all threee bolts.....you can remove two of them...... the last one you have to manipulate out with the bracket.....just call gm and im sure they will tell you a part # and price

do you mean that the motor won't move higher or that I will damage something moving it higher. Right now I've got only 1½ inch to go to have the lower bolt exposed.

Also, I won't have access to the second upper one unless I raise it more but I'm not sure I should raise it any more.

Basically the bolt from the bracket to body is in the way.

i just replaced my plate and they were kinda a pain to get the bolts out , but the lower 1 came out easy with the plate once it was loose

and i reused all 3 bolts , im just checking them to make sure they stay tight

Any of you know the size of the Crank bolt?

I've tried 27mm, 1 1/8, 1... I keep returning sockets. They'll think I'm retarded. Mesuring it does not seem to work since I obviously am not getting the right size.

I would try 26mm but I can't find it in stores.

97cavies24ls,

Have you had a chance to look at the size of the bolt?
I have tried 27mm, 1 1/16. Every store I go to, they have 24mm then it jumps to 27mm.
As for standard it goes from 1 to 1 1/16. I mean, I'm almost 100% sure it's 26mm but nobody sells that socket!!!

Also, since the 1 1/16 is pretty close, I decided to try it anyways. Believe it or not, I damaged the 1/2 drive on the breaker bar... WTH?

I tried the inpact. I'm not sure but maybe mine is not strong enough... Any tricks on top of the size of the socket?
