I was just wondering about OBD II Code Reader. If you buy one of those scanners at the auto parts store, Does it come with the GM code reader card? or some kind of software? I would like to pick this scan tool up, They are having a sale on this item.
Any Idea's guys?
It comes with a booklet, with all the related codes and info.
Basically everything you need comes with it. Plus all your buddys will be calling you to use it.
I have an Equus - works on all cars 96+ , no software needed, all codes imaginable
are in a book that comes with it. I've used it on few GM, Jeep, Mazda - no probs.
You dont need a book to cross reference check engine codes... I have the one from autozone.
It says right on the screen what the code is... However, You would need to look in a book if you do not know what the code means, or possible causes.

I have a database of over 160,000 generic and manufacturer specific DTC codes and what they mean
Its getting incorporated into my software, which is coming along nicely. Personally I prefer the computer based scan tools, you can get a lot more information from them.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
Awsome guys thanks for the info, I am planning to get one of those soon.
Buy a Tech 2 for a few grand, or buy the Snap On scan tool for $4175.00, yes four thousand big ones. It will tell you exactly what the computer sees, tell you every sensors voltage, LT/ST fuel trim, almost anything.
Thats if you got a few grand lying around.

I think the $50 Ebay model would be good enough for me.
