i was wondering if anyone has ever changed a timing belt on a 95 z24? i would like it if i can get some tips. do i have to yank the motor out? or nething like that
nobody did because there's no timing belt. It's a chain and there's no need to change it.

well i did not know that . but that was the only thing i could think was the prob would be the timing belt and sense theres no belt no i gotta find out whats wrong with that piece.
probably the tensioner not the chain check it out and see if that is your problem.
Well Adam Arnold, How many miles or km's do you have on youre 97 cavalier? Well Timing chain is correct for youre car, Its not a belt. You can drive longer with a chain, Its pretty tight spot with to get to it, It can be done without pulling the motor, Usually Timing belt is changed at 80,000 to 100,000 miles. the chain could go for about 180,000 - 190,000 miles at most. You dont want to go to far it risks of causing damage to youre engine if it breaks. Hey Adam Arnold have you done a timing chain on a cavalier before?. If you are going to try it out, I just advise you to get a good haynes repaire manual. Well Just have to make sure when you remove the timing chain set, That you make sure the 2 dots (white dots) on the timing chain sprockets are in position as the ones that are in the car as the orginal sprockets. Otherwise it should be pretty basic to change it. Just need a good set of socket set / Long end wrenches / and youre referance repaire manual.
Good Luck.
i say if u got everything apart u might aswell change the chain... im planning to do mine sometime soon as i think its making noise... but mines a '96 so i dunno if theres a diff between em...

i have a 95 and its not a 97and it has 89k on it. but i was just wonderin the difficulty level. i also have to change the head gasket so i think i might also get some porting and polishin done and a 3 angle vale job i figure while its apart might as well. but today i played with it a while and then took it for a ride if u floor it or if your in a low rpm it spits and spudders but if it slowly accelerates it feels like its normal and then sometimes it cuts in and out. i think it might be an injector or somethin. i just changed the spark plugs and boots. im really stupped by this car again. also one of my sensors was starting to go before and i think that might have also led to this prob. if i remember correctly it was the idel air control valve cuz it had all the symptons of a bad one so i suspected that bad before
