BAD CV AXLE DIAGNOSIS
Sunday, July 10, 2005 5:08 PM
Hey just wanting to ask a few questions because I think my CV axles are worn out I have a 96 Z24 and my car shudders on acceleration and deceleration, vibarates at high speeds, somtimes pops or clunks on hard cornering or hard downshifting, somtimes clicks when I turn hard like have the wheel turned all the way and step on it a little, and torque steers like a sonavabitch! now I know that FWD cars torque steer and all but never has my car done this when I step on it it turns left hard somtimes it delays a sec or 2 but it always does it and when I let off it it kinda turns right the higher the speeds the more you notice it (of coarse..) but another thing is on my car it has the long arm right axle and short arm left so if it would torque steer it should be the car turning right on accel and not left right, due to it being smaller and all so I dont think it is completly engaging and the right one is doing most of the work could it be the differiantal in the tranny? I am gonna replace the axles hopfully within a month cause it has been a while since it has started and it is only getting worse. any input is appreciated. thanks

Usually if you accelerate and hear some rattling, its the inside cv joints and when u turn and hear rattling its the outside cv joint. Check ur cv boots see if they are torn. U can have water and dirt and no grease in the cv joints if the boots are torn. U could get axle shafts with both inward and outward cv joints for a reasonable price. This way it is easier to replace the shaft than one cv joint. Start with everything new.
