Tilt wheel lever

Hey everyone.

I have a very strange one for you. I almost got into an accident the other day and i i stood up on the brakes and held onto the steering wheel for support.

The good news is there was never an accident.

The bad news is I think i screwed up my tilt on the steering wheel from all the pressure i put downward on the wheel. It seems that now when i even lightly touch the tilt lever, the steering wheel shoots up. I could have sworn that the tilt lever had some play in it before it started to release the lock, but its very tight now, and soon as you touch it, it releases.

Could someone be a pal and go check there tilt to see if it has some nice smooth play in it b4 it gets to the point where it needs to really be pulled to release the wheel.

I would hate for the wheel lock to break free while im driving, that would be very hard to steer.

Problem is I cant remember if this is how its supposed to feel. (seriously who pays mind to how the tilt feels when u adjust the steering wheel??)

All i know is it feels very off now and seems way to easy to simply put hardly any pressure on it and have it release.

I coulda sworn there was some play before it would start to actually disengage the lock.

How does yours feel?

Damn. It feels springy and loose and then it gets tight and unlocks at the end of the centimeter?

If this is the case, then I may have some work to do. What exactly locks the wheel, a pin?

mine has tension on it the whole time, locked or unlocked. does yours unlock IMMEDIATELY when you touch it? i've held onto my wheel for support from time to time and i've never had a problem.

Peace Out!!!

It seems to have tension on it throughout the entire motion, until it releases, then it gets even tighter until its fully compressed or pulled. If I hold the wheel where its supposed to be, and only just put pressure on it it will release and I can guide it wherever I please. If my knee ever tapped this, it would release the wheel without a doubt. I use the setting thats 3 from the lowest setting, and 1 down from the highest setting, or lock. It seems that all the others have a little play before it releases the wheel, except for my favorite setting, the one I put pressure on.

The ammount of pressure I put on the wheel was very great, it supported alot of my body weight. Something still feels wrong with this one setting, It just pops out of place to easily when touching the lever. I am talking about only slightly pulling on it, very very slightly. I know a spring pushes the wheel up, perhaps its supposed to feel this easy on this setting?? Im not sure, maybe you could try it, the second setting from the top, the lever only needs to be slightly depressed for it to release for me, less then 1/2 a centimeter probablly.

It holds, I just dont want to have this cost me later on, Id rather take care of it ASAP. I wish I had another cavalier to play with the tilt. LoL.
