Do the slow-pour of Seafoam through the throttle body then do a compression check a few days later. Any big problems will show up then. Also, ALWAYS check after others service your car...ALWAYS.

You have no choice to do so on an ecotec, the filter is right below it.

Grab a buddy, a compression gauge at the local auto parts store, and a spare afternoon (shouldn't take more than an hour or so). Disable the fuel pump, run out the standing gas in the line(s), remove all spark plugs, and follow the instructions with the gauge. If all readings are relatively close, you'll probably be OK as far as wear is concerned. Don't know about what readings you should get. I checked my '96 2.2 when relatively new and got 172-174 psi across all four.

You can change the oil filter without removing the S tube.
