I think twist and pull at the same time I believe not 100% sure though.

Kill Box if its an auto.... then all you have to do is take a flat head or even you car key and put it the little slot on the shift knob ... facing your Hvac .... after you pull the clip out just lift straigt up ..

thats what i had to do to take mine off. but ive got a 2000 auto fire. good luck.
