i was just looking at chevy's new bastardation of the horrible PT cruiser and something caught my eye... the top end HHR model is being sold with a 2.4 liter ecotec with VVT. 172 hp/162 torque. How hard of an engine swap do you guys think this would be?
Hard really depends on what you are willing to do. Now ... what needs to be done is a new PCM, trany (if they use a different one than a 4t40E, if you have an auto) For the money you spend on the swap, you are better off putting that money else where, and for the price you will pay for the engine itself. I highly doubt there are too many totaled cobalt SS' or HHR's, but its always worth a shot.

^ what he said. it really wouldnt be worth it. nice to think about but reality is not worth it. everyone should know or does know how much dealerships like to rape you on the cost of parts. i would guess at least 4,000 or more prob closer to 5,000 for that motor. but thats just my thought
I just thought id add something. I was looking for either an ecotec engine (2.2L) or a 2.4L engine, I went to the dealership and a new engine would be arround 4 - 5k. I mean, if you have the money to blow like Ashley Baker aka. Queen Z *no harm intended by that comment* Would it be unique .... yes ... would it be worth it on the track ... no.

Technically they aren't the same block because they are all different displacements but you would be able to put the same bottom end parts (atleast I know for the 2.2 and the 2.0 you can). I don't think GM would bring out a supercharger kit for the 2.4L because it runs 10.5:1 compression...kind of high for boost.

im pretty sure the 2.4 block is diffrent, the reason the 2.2 and the 2.0 are the same is because the 2.0 is a bored out destroked 2.2, thats why the block is the same, but the 2.4 is a diffrent build
k so the ECOTEC isn't the same way the small block where built, where the 305 350 400 part could be interchanged.
