So I have 2 blocks down at the machine shop (Borchardts), they've been there for 2 1/2 weeks, and this morning they call me about drilling the holes for the oil pump swap.
He says they have no problem with the first hole (the vertical 1.5" hole) but don't know what angle to do the second hole at. I gave him all the info, including pictures of it (the method used by Protomec).
Anyone have any info I can give them about this? An aprox. angle to drill at? or maybe I should just tell them to forget it ($65 an hour) and try and do it myself in my garage....... IDK
thanks guys.

best would be to talk with todd about it
I just e-mailed you a big file with about 60 pic's. If it doesn't get through let me know and I'll weed out some of them.

BTW , I've done 3 of them now. It takes about 45 mins. if you have some good hand tools.
Of course if you have access to a mill it's alot better.

Hell yea you did, those are some awsome pics. Thanks a million.
I stopped down at the machine shop before work, and talked to the machinist. I guess the info I had gave him confused him, and just wanted to clerify things with me. (wish I had gotten these pics before I left, but I might print them and drop them off tomorrow) He's seems confident that he can 'get 'er done' w/o a problem know though. (still going to bring the pics to him, just hit print....... its a work printer, so what the hell)
I hope to have both blocks here by next weekend, and get to work on putting mine and Tom's (Wrench Monkey) engines back together. I need to drive my car before snow flies....... I have to....... lol.
Again, thanks Gary for the pics.

you should just make a how-to or a sticky if you have time since i'm sure this is going to be a common question soon. it would make things easier for everyone including yourself. and if you don't want to..can i get a copy too volumeking333@hotmail.com
damn I'm slow....... just signed on, seen others wanted the pics, and started to forward them..... till I noticed Gary was all over it.

Since you have a 95 wouldn't be easier to get a pre 95 2.3 block and start with that??? Then you don't have to do all the machine work.

Just to remind you guy's... There are some holes that need to be tapped and plugged. As well as changing the drive gear on the crank and a few other details. Plus you have to modify the oil pan.
I don't have time to do a write up right now but I think there is a post on here some where about it.
And DON'T use the one that tells you to drill out the block and press in a tube and a bunch of other silly crap...

Can I get those pics too I would really appreciate it?
SilverCstar@aol.com
another question...... whats the size drill bit to drill the connecting hole? From the vertical hole to the excisting oil passage? Machine shop just called, and said they have it drilled, just not sure how big to go...... I think he said he has it at 5/16 right now.
Thank you again.

Tap size for 3/8 pipe thread. 35/64 or 9/16. Then tap it and put a pipe plug in.

If he's scared to drill it that big he can use a 7/16 and tap for a 1/4" pipe plug...

thanks again, this is the last thing they have to finish, before they clean it and I pick it up....... Maybe my car will be on the road soon...... *crosses fingers*
