On a group purchase I got offered a weapon r short ram intake for $160 shipped. Or a secret weapon intake with free cleanerkit & SW filter for $230 shipped. Which one is the better value? Which one gives more power and better fuel economy? And which one sounds the best? please let me know what you guys think thanks a lot

intakes are all the same. you can get a K&N filter and cleaner kit from autozone. just get the cheaper one
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Isn't the secret weapon intake cai? Or are they both short ram intakes? How much better are cai's that go down into the wheel wale than the short ram intakes?
***Looking for a BLUE 03+ STOCK cavi wing pm me if ya got one you wanna sell***
cold air is a marketing ploy. people see Cold, whatever and they think its automatically better.

So intake that goes down into the wheel well gives the same performance as the short ram intake?

On a motor with as little power as ours...yes

and if you think about it. when its 90 to 100 degrees outside. what do you think that so called Cold Air intake is going to be sucking in???
the only time its really a cold air intake is during the winter

Ya but when they say cold air intake aren't they referring to the cooler air away from the engine. During the summer on a hot day isn't the air that's under the hood when the motor warms up hotter than the air in the wheel wale ....... And isn't a cai bad for ur car in the winter because here in utah we sometimes have 10 degree mornings and if the motor sucking in air away from the engine which is a lot colder than the air underneath the hood so it takes ur motor a really long time to heat up and also the fact that you could suck water up into your motor during the winter if you have the intake down in the wheel wale ?
I'm not trying to argue or anything man I could be wrong but thanks for all the info so far

I gained 40 horsepower with the Secret Weapon, Its proven Technorogy.

a cold air intake is when the filter is in the wheel well, where the bong is.

yeah. but the pipe thats in the engine bay is going to get hot from the engine. and that will heat up any cold air coming in.

i never heard of a CAI being bad for your car in the winter. far as the motor taking longer to heat up, that might be possible. but i have not read anything on here about that
and the water gettig sucked up into the engine, yeah that has happened. but people drove thru deep water and did not have a by pass valve. just dont drive thru floods
a by pass valve lets the engine continue operating even though the filter is summerged in water. its like a 2nd filter

I may suggest this, dont go with Weapon R really ...
I had their Secret Weapon intake on my car, and i cut down the cupler almost two inches, and it still hit and dented my metal stock hood, and scuffed up my fiberglass one.
The fiment honestly wasnt that good, and the brackets it comes with arent swell either.
Made a slight difference, and it sounded mean as hell, but if i could have gone a different route, i would have ...

I hade the regular weapon R short ram and it did the same thing.... weapon R = junk
So should I get the secret weapon one or just not go for either one

So don't with either one of those intakes right? Do you guys have any recomends ? Should I just go custom like I was thinking about b4?

I just went with an ebay intake and a k&n filter works just as good as all the others but for a fraction of the price. You can get the intake that goes from the TB out on ebay for like $20 after s&h then go to pepboys or autozone and get a K&N cone filter for like $60. Boom! $80.00 intake setup that is just as good if not better than the $230.00 intakes you are talking about. If your worried about the intake pipe getting hot and putting hot air into your intake then wrap it in heat resistant rubber. If your truely worried about every little hp you gain you wont be concerned with how pretty it is. Because in our cars we only gain like 3-5hp tops with an intake, CAI or WAI don't think it really matters with our engines. Correct me if I'm wrong.
In the planning stage for an all American TRD Cavalier.
short ram vs cold air = same thing. The air is transfering fast enough where you don't really have to worry about heat transfer form the pipe to the air, at full throtle its sucking air real quick. Cold air intake picks up colder air but look at the amount of extra bends in the piping it takes to get it there, alittle bit cooler air and a little bit less flow, it all equals out. Just get whatever you find cheap but avoid anything weapon R.
go with K&N typhoon, got K&N filter fo life and perfect fit.....you wont be dissapointed

so im sure you meant go with anything but weapon R..
i would like to know why?
because EVERYTHING i have looked at about their short ram, secret weapon intake are AMAZING.... the patented inner tube design that creates a 3x velocity air induction at the end of the tube...etc... that it creates more power and efficiency that AEM or any of that other one tube stuff...
whats wrong with Weapon R then? (secret weapon not "dragon intake")
its a tube with a filter on it.
buy the cheapest, best fitting, and straightest intake you can possibly find.
done.
cold air is bs just like ram air.

Do you believe in Santa Clause and that the Tornado fuel saver improves MPG's and adds horse power to???
Weapon R does have make a handful of decent quality products, their intakes are not one of them.

do you seriously belive all that??? on top of bringing back a long dead thread??
Buy a tube and put a filter on it.
