Does Miller Racing mod 2.3 intake cams?
Saturday, March 15, 2008 11:47 AM
Hello folks can Miller Racing still mod the 2.3 intake cams for ps hex and cam position sensor, I've sent several emails and gotten no reply and I desperately need to have 3 intake cams done LO, HO & W41. So if any of you guys know of anywhere I can get this done asap I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance for any assistance.

I am headed to a local machine shop tomorrow morning to check into the power steering hex drive part of it.
I will run stock ld9 lifters and cam housings if possible.
I have the parts needed to test a theory. I hope to post more on this later tonight.

ld9 lifter wont work.... there too small for the lobes of the 2.3l cam. 2.4l cam smaller lobes also thinner 2.3l cam higher lift wider lobes.

Also if you plain on running 2.3l springs the wont work with ld9 lifters.

LD9 33mm

2.3L 35mm

Not true. Granted, it is close, but the 33mm LD9 lifters do fit over the 90-94 Quad4 springs.

Thank you Paul for the reminder! I guess i will have to put lifters into my LD9 housing and see if my HO cam will spin then.
(it spins now without lifters)
I probably should have done that last little step...
Updates next week, when I will have some time again.

My HO cam doens't spin in the stock housing. It slightly hits the beveled edge. Did you put the tower cap back on and torque it down ?

No it wont look at my old build post part of the reason i took it apart was due to the springs hitting the lifters Ill post pic if that's what it take to convince you.

..one can "notch" the cam housing out so a HO lifter clears it.....

Why would I need you to convince me? I've been running a remanufactured 086 for about a year and a half with ld9 lifters. Then again, they may not have replaced the springs with the OEM springs, but I can assure you they look very close in diameter to the ones I removed from my spare 086. Perhaps we are both right, though.

That doesn't make sense. The cam carrier would have to be bored to 35mm to accept the HO lifters. I believe you meant
Taetsch Z-24 wrote:..one can "notch" the cam housing out so a HO cam lobe clears it.....

Chris

That would certainly work, but if the lobe runs up against the edge of the lifter, then you are going to ensure premature wear on the lobe.

Well I ran 2.3l spring for about 20miles lol then had to tare it down because the springs hit the bottom edge of the ld9 lifters I wouldn't have noticed but i had to tare the motor apart for other reasons and also found this a problem.
