ok, first i'll give you the rundown of my car
95 sunfire
4door
2.2 ohv
auto
everything stock except the exhaust i just put on.
my car just reached 169K (org eng and trans)...
what i was wondering is what would i have to do to put a newer engine in...
my friend has a wrecked sunfire Gt in his back yard and the engine and trans are good. what i was wondering is if i change the wiring harness and the ecu could i just drop the engine and wiring harness in (wouldn't the main connectors for the harness just clip in to mine on my current one) sorry for asking what might be a dumb question but im new to the GM family and i'd like to see what i can do with what i have.... if i cant just drop it in can anyone tell me what options i have to put a engine into my car with out much work and hassle... what i'd like would be a DOHC engine.. so i can do some power additives. turbo,s/c,nos etc...i've also heard i cant put a newer 2200 engine in because it's od2 and my car is a ob1... again im not sure so i could be wrong and any help would greatly be appreciated ..
now about tranny i know i have a 3spd auto. see the only reason i want to do a engine and trans swap is because of the mileage on my car and i'd like to keep her running for a while.... but the trans i have now when ever i driving (regular driving) around 30 mph my trans starts to bog untill i give it gas or go over 37-39 mph never over 40 does it bog... i was just wondering if it's my torq convertor going or if it is something else that i should get check and fixed......
again my car runs great avg 27mphcty 32-4 highway.... nothing done besides exhaust ....
any help is appreciated, josh P aka spanky
clarification: the types are OBD OBD1 OBD 2. not OD. if your swapping evrything it doesnt matter what you have. i'd say go for the ecotec. 4spd auto 220 milage numbers are max rated a 24 city, and about 35 hwy
Working on obtainting an M-Class license... ?? Hint: 2 wheels.
2200******

The eco swap would require you to rewire the whole car.
I would look for a 2.3L from a 95' Z-24. Its an OBD1 engine and makes more power stock than 2.4L.
