I dont plan on running power steering once i get the engine into the car. my question it, if i remove the pump, do i have to cover the end of the cam where it was? or would i be better of just not putting and fluid in there and not hooking the hoses up, just leaving teh PSP sit there? has anyone donethis before?

and please, dont tell me this is a stupid idea, or ask me why on earth i would do this. just answer the question lol

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.

If you are talking about the ecotec yes you will need a block off plate to remove your power steering pump. I'm not sure about the quad 2.4.But I do have a used block off plate and the 2 bolts if you are interested for the ecotec that is...

It probably wouldn't directly fit a 3rd gen(haven't tried it does fit a 2nd gen though), but some 1st gen Js where never equipped with power steering from the factory, and it would obviously be better to have a steering system that is not intended to have PS than to have one that is intended to have PS but does not. I've had it go out before on my Cutlas Ciera(loose hose) and it gets old fast, especially turning the wheel from a stopped position such as a tight parking lot.

In any case if this is to be a daily driver, then I don't recommend just blocking it off.

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in
America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the
country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along,
whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the
leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and
denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the
same in any country. - Hermann Goring

a lot of people are saying to do a looped rack which basically you eliminate the pump and lines, drain as much hydraulic fluid as you can, and just run a hose looping the high and low pressure pipes on the rack (eliminates resistance on the hydraulic side) Although with the stock ratio its gonna be kinda hard to turn.

I'm trying to get unisteer to make us some custom manual racks with a ratio that will reduce effort slightly as well but I haven't been able to get in touch with them because of SEMA.

Hey PJ, are you running no power steering in your J? If so, some feedback on what you think about it, driving the car without ps, and how the lack of ps has effected the overall feel of the handling or feedback into the steering wheel.
I've removed the ps off most every car I've owned but the Cavy still has it as I've been on the fence with this for some time.
On every car I've done though, I've actually liked the steering feedback at the expense of a lot more effort to steer the car at low speeds.
These cars have also been daily drivers so you do get used to not having the power steering after some time.
With my car being a track day car once it's said and done, I've been real hesitant in dong the ps delete.
Some feedback from another J owner is what I've been looking for to make some decision for or against the delete.
Thanks PJ.
